Bring a Trailer’s 100,000th Auction Cements Company’s Position as Leading Collector and Enthusiast Vehicle Platform

Automotive auction platform and enthusiast community Bring a Trailer (BaT) will host a charity auction to commemorate its milestone 100,000th listing. Up for auction will be the company’s 1973 Datsun 240Z and the proceeds will benefit the Piston Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing post-secondary educational opportunities and funding to students interested in pursuing hands-on careers in the collector car industry.

Known for spirited driving and considered a performance bargain when first introduced for 1970, the 240Z continues to gain popularity among enthusiasts and collectors. The 1973 model 100,000th auction car was acquired by Bring a Trailer in 2018 and has since been used for cross-country road trips, BaT alumni gatherings and rallies, as well as being displayed in the company’s San Francisco office. The car has become well-known among the enthusiast community and is part of the BaT brand.

“Our community of enthusiasts has been the backbone of BaT’s success since the beginning. In considering how to recognize this milestone, the only option was something that would enable us to give back and help fuel the passion of the next generation of auto enthusiasts,” said Randy Nonnenberg, co-founder and president of Bring a Trailer. “We chose our 240Z not only because it has served as a mascot for our brand over the past several years of growth, but also because it highlights the roots of the company. It’s the type of diverse, eye-catching, modified vehicle that the BaT community loves to see.”

Repainted in lime green, the 240Z has been modified with a Rebello Racing 2.7-liter straight-six, triple Weber carbs and a five-speed manual transmission. Other features include a limited-slip differential, four-wheel disc brakes, lowered suspension and 16-inch Panasport wheels with new Michelins.

Bidding will go live on the Bring a Trailer website on Saturday, Feb. 25, and close on Tuesday, March 7. The entire sale price, including the 5% BaT buyer’s fee, will be donated to the Piston Foundation. One hundred percent of the donation will be used to directly fund programs helping the nonprofit’s mission to fund skilled trade education for automotive students and to develop and establish vehicle restoration apprentices.

“The Piston Foundation is proud to be chosen as the Bring a Trailer charity partner for this milestone auction. BaT’s support of our mission to bring more young people into the trades of the auto restoration industry highlights the importance of this issue for the collector car community and demonstrates their leadership in the industry. The BaT community is knowledgeable, engaged, and generous. We hope they embrace this auction as a chance to give to what they love because 100 percent of the sale and every additional donation go directly to scholarships for aspiring technicians,” said Jeff Mason, president and COO of Piston Foundation.
