Keeping the Charge with Optima and Summit Racing
Everyone knows Optima makes excellent batteries, but they also make excellent battery chargers and maintainers to keep your Optima or other 12-volt battery in tip-top shape. Face it, most hot rods and muscle cars don’t get driven every day so it is important to keep the battery maintained at its proper voltage for optimum performance when called upon while improving the battery’s life-span.
Optima knows batteries and understands their needs which is why they offer an advanced Charger and a Maintainer, both available through Summit Racing.
Optima’s Digital 1200 Battery Charger can bring batteries discharged as low as 1.25 volts back to full voltage. It has a microprocessor that determines battery condition before charging, ensuring the battery gets the correct amount of charge without overcharging, charging too fast, or charging too long. Set the charger to the battery type (AGM deep cycle, AGM starting, or lead-acid) and it sequences through these steps:
- Analyzes battery’s condition
- Does soft ramp charging for deeply discharged batteries or fast charging for moderately discharged batteries
- Conditions battery when charging is complete
- Goes into auto maintain mode
- Storage recognition mode for long-term storage, desulfates battery every 30 days
The Optima Digital 1200 Battery Charger has a 12-amp charging rate; reverse polarity and over-temperature protection; automatic restart in case of power failure; temperature compensation; and an easy to read LCD display. Optima even built in an LED work light, a USB charging port, and an auxiliary port for a hardwired battery maintainer connection.
The Optima Digital 200+ Battery Maintainer is designed for 12-volt lead-acid, AGM, and lithium iron starting batteries, especially smaller motorcycle and powersports batteries. It has an LED glow bar that indicates charging status. It will pulse in a blue tone while analyzing the battery, turn solid red while charging, solid amber while conditioning, and solid green when in fully-charged/auto maintain mode. The Digital 200+ has pre-charge status button with a five-bar display that will show you the approximate state of charge in the battery before you start charging it.
