In addition to the regular activities you’re accustomed to at each of our National events throughout the country, Columbus brings so much more to the table. The Street Rod and Street Machine of the Year competitions are the highlight of the event, and we can’t wait to see what has been tucked away for a big debut this year!

The Summer of ’69 display presented by PPG is a new addition for 2019 which will celebrate the 50th anniversary of America’s favorite muscle car – the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. Over 100 iconic ’69 Camaros will be on display inside the Kasich Hall all weekend, with a special celebration happening Friday at 3pm. We’ll have some of the original factory workers who assembled ’69 Camaros in the Norwood plant on-site inside the Kasich Hall all weekend, so you can feel free to chat with them and hear some of the stories they have to tell!

A huge display of automotive aftermarket manufacturers will make up the indoor vendor area inside the Bricker Building, as well as fill the outdoor areas with big rig displays. The Bricker Building will also host the 2019 New Product displays – awards will be given out during Saturday’s ceremony inside the Celeste Building starting at 3pm.

During that 3pm ceremony inside the Celeste building we will also crown the 2019 PPG Street Machine of the Year as well as the 2019 Classic Instruments Street Rod of the Year. We’ll also pull the cover off the 2019/2020 Grand Prize Giveaway vehicle – a 1967 Chevy Nova built by Designer Street Rods!

And following Sunday’s 2:22pm Awards Ceremony we’ll announce a lucky winner for the 2018/2019 Grand Prize Giveaway 1969 Ford F-100 built by Lucky 7 Speed Shop!

Speaking of awards, Phil & Jeremy Gerber with the Roadster Shop and Kyle Tucker with Detroit Speed will each be picking their Top 10 favorite rides of the event for a combined 20 Builder’s Choice awards – be sure to park in the Builder’s Choice specialty parking area on Saturday between 7am-noon to be in contention for one of those.

That’s the low-down on some key aspects to jot down if you’re headed to Ohio this weekend. Over 6,500 street rods, muscle cars, trucks, and customs will be shined up and on display. AutoCross action will be heating things up on the track all weekend with the Sponsor Shootout happening Friday from 3:30-5:30, and the Summer Shootout going down on Saturday at the same time.

Add in the always entertaining Kids Zone, the Goodgals Gallery, a massive Swap Meet and Cars 4 Sale Corral, live Bands on stage, a Burnout Contest, Nitro Thunderfest action, and plenty of partying each night at the host hotels (Crowne Plaza & Hilton Polaris) and this year’s PPG Nationals is shaping up to be one for the books!

If you can’t make it to Columbus, be sure to at least cruise your classic this Friday for National Collector Car Appreciation Day!

Director of Media & Marketing

A lifelong car kid, Steven grew up around drag strips – his name may sound familiar because his grandfather is Bob Bunker, a Pro Mod pioneer who piloted the “Folsom Flash” ’55 Chevy from the ’70s through the ’90s. Steven’s father, Bob Bunker Jr., heads up Bunker Motorsports and is a regular in the West Coast racing scene, building chassis and race cars for more than 30 years. With genetics like that, it’s no wonder Steven has a passion for both cars and motorsports. In addition to helping his father and honing his fabrication skills at Bunker Motorsports, Steven began shooting photos at the drag strip and capturing the action with his Canon camera. He is now artfully crafting stories around the awesome machines at the shows, as well as the men and women behind them. When he's is not on the road covering events, he spends his downtime out on the water fishing, building his 1962 Chevy Nova, or cruising his 1987 GMC Suburban.
