Goodguys Updates Multiple Top 12 Awards for 2023 Season

Every year, Goodguys recognizes 12 of the nation’s finest custom-built cars and trucks with the Goodguys Top 12 Awards. These elite “Of The Year” awards are some of the most coveted honors in our industry and identify top vehicles in a dozen categories representing different genres and build styles. We regularly review the criteria for these awards and have made several changes worth noting for the 2023 season.

Custom of the Year

The Fuel Curve Custom of the Year award will become a Regional Top 12 award starting in 2023, with finalists selected at events across the country and a winner determined at the end of the season. Most recently, this award has been awarded at the All American Get-Together in Pleasanton, California. Regional finalists will now be selected at the following events:

  • FiTech Fuel Injection Spring Nationals presented by Grundy Insurance – March 17-19 – Scottsdale, AZ
  • All American Get-Together – March 25-26 – Pleasanton, CA
  • Meguiar’s Del Mar Nationals – March 31 April 1-2 – Del Mar, CA
  • Griot’s Garage North Carolina Nationals – April 21-23 – Raleigh, NC
  • BASF Nashville Nationals – May 19-21 – Lebanon, TN
  • Speedway Motors Heartland Nationals presented by BASF – June 30 July 1-2 – Des Moines, IA
  • Summit Racing Nationals presented by PPG – July 7-9 – Columbus, OH
  • Griot’s Garage Pacific Northwest Nationals – July 28-30 – Puyallup, WA

Additionally, the model year eligibility for Custom of the Year has been changed to vehicles from 1936-65 vintage, and the criteria updated to reflect the intent for this award to honor an exceptional traditional custom vehicle.

Hot Rod of the Year

The Tanks, Inc. Hot Rod of the Year award has long been aimed at hot rods with attitude that are regularly street driven. We’ve long encouraged competitors to have some miles on their cars when they arrive at the BASF Nashville Nationals, and we’re reinforcing that by updating the criteria to state that competing vehicles must have a minimum of 500 miles on the odometer before entering the event.

America’s Most Beautiful

The BASF America’s Most Beautiful award has found a new home. It will now be presented at the 30th Summit Racing Lone Star Nationals in Fort Worth, Texas, September 29-October 1. This award recognizes the most beautiful vehicle in competition and is open to street rods, hot rods, trucks, street machines, customs, custom rods, and muscle cars through 1998 vintage.

King of the Desert

(formerly AutoCrosser of the Year)

In AutoCross competition, the CPP King of the Desert award will replace the AutoCrosser of the Year honor. This award will go to the 2023 winner of the 16-car King of the Desert shootout at the 26th Speedway Motors Southwest Nationals in Scottsdale, Arizona. Prior to winning the shootout, competitors must have participated in a minimum of three Goodguys CPP AutoCross event shootouts during the course of the season.
