Goodguys is Celebrating 40 Years With a Fantastic Season of Great Events and Good Times
It’s time to get out in your garage and start polishing that paint and tuning up those engines! Spring is just around the corner and Goodguys is warming up in the staging lanes so we can make a hard launch into a new and exciting event season! We’re getting everything dialed in to ensure that Goodguys gatherings are the best places to be in 2023, and we want you to come along for the ride!
40 YEARS OF MAIN EVENTS!
We know we don’t look a day over 25, which makes it hard to believe that Goodguys has been serving up our special brand of Good Times for four decades! That’s right, the first Goodguys Get-Together was held way back in 1983, when Boyd Red paint jobs and billet wheels were just starting to shake up the street rod world. Needless to say, we’ve come a long way since those early Pleasanton events and we’re looking forward to celebrating 40 years of Goodguys history throughout the season in 2023!
This historic 40th anniversary season will feature 14 big-time events all across the country. A dozen of those will be three-day National events, complemented by a pair of two-day Get-Togethers in Pleasanton, California, Goodguys’ original headquarters hometown. Each event is scheduled as close to its traditional weekend as possible, with no venue changes from 2022.
We’ll be kicking things off as we’ve done the past few years – with the 13th CPP Spring Lone Star Nationals presented by Tremec March 10-12 at our new headquarters, Texas Motor Speedway, and wrapping up the season in traditional style at the 26th Speedway Motors Southwest Nationals in Scottsdale, Arizona November 17-19. Mid-season will still be marked by two massive summer traditions – the 32nd Speedway Motors Heartland Nationals presented by BASF June 30-July 1 in Des Moines, Iowa, and the 25th Summit Racing Nationals presented by PPG July 7-9 at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus.
NEW TWISTS
Beyond the regular schedule, Goodguys is working on a new two-day event format to be launched in several different cities around the country. The goal is for these to be smaller, more intimate regional events that are more interactive, involving activities like scenic drives, shop visits, and socializing opportunities like tailgating and live music, in addition to one-day show-and-shines. We’re aiming for a more relaxed vibe than National events, and the opportunity to explore some different cities and venues. Details and locations are still being finalized for these new events – watch for announcements coming soon.
ACTION-FILLED WEEKENDS
When it comes to the regular roster of Goodguys National events and Get-Togethers, you can count on weekends filled with activities to enhance your four-wheeled fun. We’ll have AutoCross racing at most venues, smoke-filled Burnout Competitions at select events, ground-pounding Nitro Thunderfest exhibitions, activities for the kids, live music, model car shows, and more! Now more than ever, Goodguys events are more than just car shows – they’re action-packed happenings!
AWARDS AND ACCOLADES
We know that many participants want to be evaluated, which is why the Goodguys awards program recognizes dozens of great rides at every event. These are highlighted by the Builder’s Choice Top 10 awards at National events, which are selected by some of the country’s top craftsmen. We will also continue the Meguiar’s Top 12 “Of the Year” awards, which recognize the best of the best cars and trucks in 12 distinct categories.
We’re also happy to continue celebrating young enthusiasts with the Next Generation program sponsored by Goolsby Customs. The Next Generation parking area recognizes rodders 25 years and under, and from there we identify two top rides for closer evaluation and social media voting to determine an event award winner. At year’s end, all Next Generation event winners are evaluated to determine a National Champion, who is invited to the season-ending 26th Speedway Motors Southwest Nationals in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Dozens of other picks and awards are also selected from throughout the show area at each event and are handed out during the Sunday afternoon awards ceremonies.
SPECIAL SHOWCASES
Every Goodguys event welcomes a rainbow of incredible cars and trucks, but you can expect some fun specialty displays at select events throughout the season. Many of these are part of our indoor display areas. Whether it’s the expanded Truck Showcase parking area at the Spring Lone Star Nationals, the PPG Lowrider Palace or Good Wood at the Del Mar Nationals, the Deadend Lowrider display in Pleasanton, you’ll find some fantastic focused exhibits on specific vehicles and genres at events all season long.
SUNDAY FUN
Do you have a 1999-or-newer vehicle and want to join the Goodguys fun? Then bring it out for Meguiar’s All American Sunday! Open to all years of American-made and American-powered vehicles, these Sunday fun days at National events are great opportunities to show off that newer ride and participate in the Goodguys show atmosphere. You can even do some cone carving by participating in the All American AutoCross class!

Bring your shopping list! Each Goodguys National event and Get-Together features a great selection of vendors and a sizeable swap meet. This makes them great places to shop for parts, sell off a few extra pieces, or maybe look for your next project vehicle. Whether you’re buying or selling, you’ll be in the right place to get – or make – a deal.

Ya Gotta Drive ’Em! That’s what Goodguys founder Gary Meadors always said, which is one of the primary reasons we enjoy hosting the Hall of Fame Road Tour and Cruise to Columbus every year.
