Fuel Systems 101: Picking a Set of Fuel Rails
In this article, we are going to start talking about picking the right fuel delivery method for your system. Let’s start with our first example: a 1,000-horsepower carbureted system running at 7 psi on 13.5 volts with 500 lbs/hr of fuel, and needing our A1000, a 13204 A1000 regulator, a 12304 100-micron pre-filter with ORB-10 ports, and a 12340 10-micron post-filter with ORB-10 ports. A carbureted system doesn’t need fuel rails, however, you can run a fuel log (p/n 14201 or 14202) if you like. With a fuel log, the regulator will be placed behind the carburetor, which means the engine sees full volume. Without a fuel log, the regulator is typically placed in front of the carburetor, therefore the engine does not see full volume.
Our second example is: a 1,200 flywheel horsepower EFI system running at 65 psi base + boost on 13.5 volts with 804 lbs/hr of fuel, and needing our Eliminator pump, a 13134 Pro-Series Extreme Flow EFI regulator, a 12309 100-micron pre-filter with ORB-12 ports, and 12341 10-micron post-filter with ORB-12 ports. Let’s pretend you’re running an LS3, since it’s a common setup. With the above system installed on an LS3, you would need our 14115 fuel rails.
Our third example is: a 1,000 flywheel horsepower EFI system running at 65 psi base + boost on 13.5 volts with 900 lbs/hr of fuel. This system needs our Pro Series pump, which flows up to 1,200 lbs/hr at 65 psi and 13.5 volts. It also needs our 13305 Big EFI X1 regulator, a 12302 100-micron pre-filter with ORB-12 ports, and a 12339 10-micron post-filter with ORB-12 ports. Let’s pretend you’re running a 2010 5.4L Cobra Jet Mustang, since it’s a common setup for this system. With the above system installed on a 2010 5.4L Cobra Jet Mustang, you would need our 14141 fuel rails.
