2020 Classic Instruments Street Rod of the Year Finalist – Brandie Laird’s 1934 Ford

Brandie Laird is a lifelong car enthusiast who was looking for something roomier than her ’31 Model A. Her husband bought her an American Speed 1934 Ford roadster body as a birthday present and Brandie tapped Chad Adams for the build after admiring many of the Georgia builder’s hot rods. “Having family from the South, I just knew he would be a good fit,” Brandie says.

The car’s centerpiece is a 205c.i. Lincoln V-12 Flathead built by H&H Flatheads and detailed with polished aluminum heads, triple carbs, and brass plating. It’s backed by a C4 transmission and rests in an Adams Hot Rod Shop chassis equipped with a So-Cal 5-inch dropped axle, Winters quick-change rearend, Boling Brothers brakes, and Wheelsmith wheels.

Chad finessed the sleek steel body and added a custom floor and frame covers before laying down the subtle PPG Grover Green finish. The color is complemented by black leather upholstery with vintage fabric inserts, along with an early Chrysler dash cluster filled with Classic Instruments and a banjo wheel topping the Limeworks column.

The result is exactly what Brandie wanted. “What a great shop, helping me make this dream car come alive,” Brandie says. “I can’t wait to drive it more.”
