‘The Big One’ takes Over Ohio – Get Geared up for Goodguys 24th Summit Racing Nationals
It’s time for ‘The Big One’!
The Ohio Expo Center in downtown Columbus is ground zero for the Goodguys 24th Summit Racing Nationals presented by PPG on July 8-10. For Goodguys, this is ‘The Big One’ as thousands of cool cars and trucks pack the sprawling fairgrounds for a weekend hot rodding fun and action. Along with thousands of cool cars, cool people and good times, there are plenty of must-see features that you just won’t see anywhere else starting with two coveted awards.
On Saturday evening, Goodguys announces the Classic Instruments Street Rod of the Year and the PPG Street Machine of the Year. These sought after awards bring the top street rods and street machines from across the country to gather under one roof forming a spectacular show within a show. For those planning to compete for these two Top 12 titles, remember to be in the Cardinal lot Friday, July 8th by 10am to be eligible.
During the same presentation on Saturday, Goodguys will be unveiling the 2022/2023 Grand Prize Giveaway vehicle – an over-the-top ’88 short bed OBS Chevy truck built by the Roadster Shop. Speaking of Grand Prize Giveaway’s, the Goolsby Customs-built ’85 Squarebody C10 will be given away to a lucky participant following the Sunday awards ceremony! That’s right, the title will transfer ownership and someone will drive away with a brand new ride! That’s two amazing Chevy trucks…but Goodguys hasn’t forgotten about you Ford fans.
The Summit Racing Nationals will also host a celebration of the original pony car – Mustang Madness! This special gathering takes place all weekend in Kasich Hall bringing six generations of Mustangs together under one roof. We’re talking everything from meticulously restored K-codes and Boss 429s to performance built Fox bodies, supercharged Coyote Shelbys and everything in between. This 55-year celebration of the Mustang is something you do not want to miss.
If you’re looking for parts for your project or product info this is the show to bring your questions as ‘The Big One’ brings out the best vendors and manufacturers. There is also a special New Products Showcase area where manufactures introduce their latest hot rodding and restoration wares vying for a Best New Product award. From air cleaners to zipties, you can find it all at Columbus!
If you’re anxious to kick off your hot rodding fun a little early, be sure to join in Thursday’s poker run. The cruise is free and kicks off at 10AM from the registration area at the fairgrounds (Cardinal lot) and will wind around the outskirts of Columbus for a fun start to the weekend. If you still have some gas in your tank by the end of Friday and Saturday, you can cruise over to one of the two host hotel after parties! The Crowne Plaza and the Hilton Polaris both welcome hot rodders with a packed parking lot, music and food to regale in the days adventures and kick back for the evening.
