Survivor Series Template – Roadster Shop’s 1968 Camaro
Yes, there are still survivor first-generation Camaros out there. Roadster Shop has built several and has the routine down well. This is the first – the Survivor Series template. Dubbed “Goldie,” it’s a ’68 model the team picked up at one of the final Goodguys events in Indy.
The Camaro served as the testbed for Roadster Shops SPEC Series chassis for first-gen Camaros – a bolt-on perimeter frame platform for F-bodies that incorporates a modern, performance-designed front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering, a triangulated four-bar rear suspension, coil-over shocks, and more. This one benefits from big-inch disc brakes and 18×9- and 18×10-inch Forgeline RS-OE1 wheels with gold-line tires.
Power comes from a Texas Speed-prepped LS, but throttle body induction, an old-school air cleaner, and coils hidden under early Z28 valve covers offer the quick-take impression of a vintage small block. Power is delivered through a Bowler-built Tremec T56 Magnum six speed with a McLeod clutch and Tilton hydraulic release setup.
While much of the stock interior was retained, the shop eventually traded the original bench seat for a pair of low-back Recaros that were upholstered to match, along with a stock-style console. Dakota Digital RTX gauges provide modern operation and features with vintage style.
The template has proven successful, as Roadster Shop has built several Survivor Series Camaros using a similar formula and the F-body SPEC Series chassis has proven to be one of the company’s best sellers. After seeing this one out on the road during the 2019 Hall of Fame Road Tour West, we can see why.
