Goodguys G10 Giveaway Truck – Back Home and Better than Ever

In 2012, the planning stages for the Goodguys G10 Giveaway Truck got underway. Initial renderings and concepts of the 1967 Chevrolet C10 were sketched by Oregon based artist E. Black Design and the truck was sculpted and finished by the summer of 2015 at Scott’s Hotrods in Oxnard, California. With extensive mods and a low-slung stance, it was a spectacular truck build. The fact that it was to serve as a promotional giveaway vehicle was quite stunning yet there it was.

The Goodguys Rod & Custom Association has a three decades- long tradition of doing Giveaway cars and trucks as an added bonus to the participants who enter vehicles in Goodguys events across the country. The program began with “raw assembled” hot rods back in the late 80s requiring the winner to finish it on their own. That all changed about 20 years ago with a long list of turnkey vehicles which have run the gamut from custom one-off rides and rods to brand new Ford, Chevy and Chrysler vehicles.

When the curtain went up on the Goodguys 2014 PPG Nationals in Columbus, Ohio, Scott’s Hot Rods owner Justin Padfield drove the Goodguys G10 truck out from behind a curtain then cruised it in front of the capacity crowd as its grand unveiling. From there, it was taken on a 12-month tour before winding its way back to Columbus where it was given away in July of 2015. The winner was Rick Lingen from Arizona. He leaped high into the air upon being called as the winner of the blue beauty with confetti falling from hi above.

Lingen got the truck back to Arizona and realized he couldn’t take both of his grandchildren for a ride since the truck only had two seats. He already had a ’69 Camaro that he loved which got booted out of the garage when the G10 showed up. He phoned Padfield and asked if he could trade the truck back to Scott’s Hotrods in exchange for some new Camaro parts. On the list was Scott’s front and rear suspension, Wilwood Disc Brakes, a Moser 9”, LS3 Connect & Cruise crate engine package, Dakota Digital Gauges and American Autowire rewire essentials and Hot Rods By Boyd wheels with Michelin tires. The deal was made and the truck went back to its creators.

Now for the good stuff. Ride quality is bitchin thanks to the ground-hugging Scott’s Hotrods 100% TIG welded complete coilover chassis featuring Scott’s independent front suspension and parallel 4-bar rear suspension. Highlights include Scott’s watts link, RideTech coilovers, torsion spline sway bars, Wilwood Disc Brakes and a Moser 9” housing. It puts out plenty of power thanks to the FAST EFI Lingenfelter LS3 equipped with Scott’s Hotrods billet valve/coil covers custom machined with the Goodguys logo.

Truck enthusiasts will notice sheet metal restyling which includes a remade cab and smoothed drip rails, smoothed edges and flawless gaps all performed by the Scott’s team. In total, there are over 100 subtle tweaks to the outer skin, much of which was donated by LMC Truck. When it was prepped and ready, Palmer’s Customs shot the PPG Midnight Blue. Ron Mangus stitched up the soft basketball colored leather interior which features racing belts, square weave carpet, and a custom Scott’s CNC-machined gauge bezel housing Dakota Digital gauges.

Other hot rodding industry contributors to the Goodguys G10 included Ultimate Headers, TCI Transmissions, Billet Specialties Bonneville wheels (which have since been switched out for HRBB XR-3 20-inchers in smoked gray), Diamond Back tires, and chrome and other cool coatings by Advanced Plating.

With over 15,000 miles on the clock, the Goodguys G10 has proven its mettle. It also represents the best of the aftermarket industry. Whether it’s on the highway, an AutoCross track or parked outside a restaurant, the G10 turns heads in a big way. Rest assured it will keep on truckin’.
