Best of 2020 – Trucks

There’s no denying that Trucks are one of the hottest trends in our industry today. Everything from Hot Rod Pickups to the 1988-98 GM “OBS” trucks are popping up left and right. Parts and components for trucks continue to be developed, 60’s and 70’s Ford and Dodge trucks are seeing an insurgence, and the growing trend of 4×4 and overland vehicles has all of us at Goodguys excited.

We saw a ton of cool pickups in 2020 which allowed us to stack our 2021 Scotts Hotrods Truck of the Year Early and LMC Truck of the Year Late finalist categories with some heavy hitters. At the Heartland Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa the Tin Man’s Garage V6 Arias-powered ’36 Willys nabbed the Truck Early finalist spot, while the ultra-rare ’76 Ford B100 from River City Rods took home the Truck Late honors. A couple weeks later we rolled over to Salt Lake City where “SquareD”, a lifted Duramax-powered ’81 K2500 Chevy from HS Customs, added the first GM truck into the Truck Late running amongst three Ford F100 contenders.

But this gallery isn’t just for award-winning rides. We filled it mostly with trick trucks scattered throughout the showgrounds that caught our attention last year…and there were a lot of them! Big or small, early or late, lifted or lowered, painted or patina we dig ’em all!

Director of Media & Marketing

A lifelong car kid, Steven grew up around drag strips – his name may sound familiar because his grandfather is Bob Bunker, a Pro Mod pioneer who piloted the “Folsom Flash” ’55 Chevy from the ’70s through the ’90s. Steven’s father, Bob Bunker Jr., heads up Bunker Motorsports and is a regular in the West Coast racing scene, building chassis and race cars for more than 30 years. With genetics like that, it’s no wonder Steven has a passion for both cars and motorsports. In addition to helping his father and honing his fabrication skills at Bunker Motorsports, Steven began shooting photos at the drag strip and capturing the action with his Canon camera. He is now artfully crafting stories around the awesome machines at the shows, as well as the men and women behind them. When he's is not on the road covering events, he spends his downtime out on the water fishing, building his 1962 Chevy Nova, or cruising his 1987 GMC Suburban.
