Joe Faso’s 1935 Ford Roadster built by Lakeside Rods and Rides
Roger Burman has built a long string of trendsetting and award-winning cars and trucks at his Lakeside Rods and Rides shop in Iowa. He has a knack for streamlined and restyled ’35 Fords, having won numerous Goodguys Top 12 awards (along with many other national honors) with different examples of the model through the years. Joe Faso’s roadster might be one of the best examples yet.
The Ford is built on a custom stretched-wheelbase Roadster Shop chassis with cantilevered air springs on the IFS, a rear four bar setup, Wilwood disc brakes, and 18×7- and 20×10-inch Schott wheels. Power comes from a GM LS3 with a reversed intake, Ultimate headers, hand-built accessory brackets, a 4L60E transmission, and lots of custom detailing.
It’s that streamlined body, restyled from a rough steel original, that really captures your attention, though. From the custom headlights and grille – which blends a ’35 top portion and ’34 lower section – through wedge-sectioned body, every piece and panel has been altered or custom fabricated. Revision Rods helped with some of the metalwork, while Lakeside’s Bobby Hofhauer sprayed the Axalta Sarsaparilla Sage paint. Recovery Room gets credit for the beautiful maroon leather upholstery, while the dash is adorned with Dakota Digital instruments and a Sparc Industries wheel.
