Editor’s Note: We’re getting into the Holiday Spirit this year! Sometimes the littlest things can bring a big smile to your face, and that’s exactly where this 12 Cars of Christmas idea came from. I decided to reach out to some of these owners, do a little investigating on my own, and bring you (in no specific order) 12 Cool Cars that really took the holiday festivities to another level!
12 Cars of Christmas – #3
There’s something about the icy, silver-blue colors on David Tanner’s panel-painted ’28 Model A coupe that just look right in these photos he recently took of the car in the snow. It’s almost like a hot rod snow globe come to life!
David runs Coler Street Auto Body in Neosho, Missouri, where he handles both collision work and turns out custom creations like this ’60s-style Model A, dubbed “Skalawag.” David started with a pile of sport coupe pieces and crafted this throwback hot rod that’s chopped 3-inches, powered by a vintage 327c.i. small-block Chevy backed by a Muncie four-speed, and wears period touches like 14- and 15-inch Astro wheels, white vinyl upholstery with pleated turquoise inserts, and a metalflake steering wheel. He credits his friend Colorado Bill for assistance, and Ricky Neal for helping to lay out and spray the amazing panel paint.
As perfect as the coupe looks in the snow, it sees most of its road miles during warmer months. The car has been on the road for two seasons now, and David is not afraid of driving it to events and cruises around the region. We can only imagine how cool it would be seeing this ’60s-flavored machine cruising down a two-lane highway, and hope we can see it in action and in person in 2021.
