York Speed Shop Revitalizes the Goodguys Top 12 Trophies
Any hot rodder will tell you that even classic designs can benefit from updates. That was the thought Goodguys had when we teamed up with York Speed Shop, a division of Roseville Rod & Custom, to give our BASF Top 12 trophies a facelift for 2024.
The Goodguys BASF Top 12 “Of The Year” trophies have become coveted among builders through the years and, if we do say so ourselves, the design has become a classic in its own right, with a classic oval base and silhouette of the Goodguys ’32 sedan, both machined out of billet. We wanted to maintain that iconic design, while adding a little more character and personal feel to the trophies. Ben York and his York Speed Shop team had just the right solution.
The new trophies employ mixed materials, with the bases being machined from various types of exotic woods, like wenge, bloodwood, bubinga, and Bolivian rosewood. The ’32 silhouette is machined from aluminum and treated to a polished nickel finish from Sherm’s Plating, while the Goodguys arch has a Cerekote finish and is machine faced to reveal the letters. The information tag with the award name and information also has a Cerekote finish, with laser engraving. The machining, Cerekote process, and laser engraving are all done in-house at York Speed Shop.
Additionally, each large Top 12 trophy is accompanied by a corresponding smaller billet award, which features a Cerekote finish and polished ’32 silhouette. The idea is that the car owner will keep the big trophy and the shop will get the smaller one, though we’ll let owners and builders do the arm wrestling to determine who gets what!
We extend our thanks to York Speed Shop and Roseville Rod & Custom for updating the Top 12 Trophies in a way that’s clean, classy, and contemporary, while still honoring a classic Goodguys design. We can’t wait for you to see them in person!
