Ridetech Gets Back on the Autocross Track with a Purpose Built Fox Body Mustang

The Fox Body Mustang platform is responsible for relaunching performance enthusiast’s love for the Mustang. In the mid-‘80s and early ‘90s there were Mustang-only drag racing events and series running across the country as racers embraced forced induction and EFI controls, sticky small tires, and small-block Ford performance.Ridetech Fox Body Mustang

It’s not a surprise that the Fox series Mustangs are popping up at more shows and events as the little pony car is a blast to drive and look terrific, not to mention the guys that always wanted one back when they were new are entering a time in their life when they can afford to build a nice one! But, we’re not seeing just a bunch of straight-line Mustangs these days. Times have changed and the idea of overall performance is not limited to just acceleration, but now includes cornering and braking along with some comfort amenities for the passengers.

One company that has never shied away from building project cars as a test bed for new products is Ridetech – and they decided it was due-time to build a Fox body to test their new suspension components and kits and to get out on the track to enjoy some corner carving, friendly competition and just the fun of hanging in the pits with fellow racers.

Ridetech has plenty of the build details on their blog pages starting with the car’s inception and finding the shell of original 4-cylinder powered car. As you could imagine, the car is loaded with Ridetech suspension parts, many of which are prototype pieces getting their real-world testing before launching to the world.Ridetech Fox Body Mustang

One thing we’ll get out there right away is that as tempting as it may have been to go with LS power, the Ridetech crew kept with a Ford in a Ford (whew!). A high revving 358c.i. was built by SPEC Race Engine and readily zings up to 8,000 rpm as we heard when they ran the car at the Goodguys Spring Lone Star Nationals a couple months back.Ridetech Fox Body Mustang

We could get into all the details about the build and their Goodguys AutoCross debut, but we’ll let them show you in more depth – just follow over to the Ridetech story pages. And follow here for more information on Ridetech Fox Body products.
