Seeing Red – A Valentine’s Day Gallery of Red Cars and Trucks
The personality traits of the color red can be inferred in many ways. From confidence and risk to energy or danger, there are many characteristics to red. In eastern cultures it can mean luck or prosperity, while here in the west its typically associated with boldness or even to the level of brashness.
Being Valentines Day, there is only one meaning for the color red – love. And maybe passion or lust. Jealousy, or anger. Actually, all of those feelings can be shown in red and come up on this made up Hallmark holiday, but this is Fuel Curve, not some feel-good, harmonious website. When we think of the color red, we picture red cars and red trucks from a hot rod deuce, to a hot sounding muscle car or a low cruising custom.
In the automotive world, red cars also have all sorts of traits such as resale red, racing red, mid-life red and show car red (the best of which is likely candy-apple red of course). Regardless of what you may infer about a red car, or subconsciously associate with the driver, there is no denying that red cars do look good. And usually, really, really good.
Muscle cars look great in red. Traditional hot rods look great in red, trucks look good in red. Customs? You bet, though a little dash of pearl goes a long way. Some colors come and go, but red has been an automotive staple, since the first red hue was sprayed on sheet metal. Mustangs, Ferraris, Jags, Tri-Fives, Vipers, and of course Corvettes (cue up the Prince song) all look good in red.
During the muscle car hay-days Chevy had Cranberry Red, Plymouth used Tor Red and there were a lot of Ford’s sprayed in Rangoon Red. Red simply works on all that is automotive. And not just the exterior – red interiors can be a refreshing change from the pedestrian black, gray or even tan.
We figured the best car-guy kind of thing we could do for Valentine’s Day was to pull up a gallery filled with red: red muscle machines, red hot rods, red customs, red race cars and classics. It’s a gallery you’ll love, and a Valentine’s Day we can get behind.
