High Amps at Low RPM – Powermaster’s New HPR Alternators for Classics
Our hot rods are becoming more dependent on electronic components such as cooling fans, fuel pumps, and creature comforts like air conditioning. These are all great things, but you have to make sure your charging circuit is up to keeping pace with these electronics. A stock replacement alternator on an ’87 Mustang will not be able to support the demands of an electric fan, fuel pump and EFI, so it’s important to install an alternator that can handle these current demands – and that is where Powermaster can help with their new HPR Alternator series.
The Powermaster Small Frame HPR Alternators, you can run your air conditioning, electric fans and fuel pump, headlights and more without worrying if your battery is charging! These alternators produce over 145 amps at idle and 180 amps at top end ensuring a fully charged battery and the proper electricity to keep accessories functioning at their best.
The trick thing about these Powermaster HPR Alternators is their ability to produce big current at lower rpm. Think about it – where does your engine run the majority of the time? At idle and low rpm! Sitting at stop lights, cruising in traffic and through car shows. This is where you need serious charging capabilities to keep up with fans, air conditioning, fuel pumps and stereos – and the new HPR Small Frame alternators deliver!
The Small Frame HPR Alternators are based on Powermaster’s Large Frame HPR Series developed for late model applications. Their engineers were able to incorporate the efficient charging technology of the larger, late model line into popular small frame housings that are used in hot rods and muscle cars of the ’60s – ’80s (such as the 10SI, 12si, CS130 and AD230). They will also bolt into many aftermarket front accessory drive systems.
The Small Frame HPRs produce a solid 160+ amps at cruising speeds, plenty to keep all of your electronics working and the battery charged. This highly efficient technology consumes less engine power while creating higher current across the entire rpm range.
Each new Small Frame HPR Alternator is designed as a direct replacement and available for most GM and Ford applications. Each alternator features a one-wire connection, and is available with a V-belt or serpentine pulley. Finishes include natural, polished and a durable black.
