Family Ties! Leisinger Brothers Capture Goodguys AutoCrosser of the Year and Duel in the Desert Wins!

Racing brothers Josh and Jared Leisinger had a winning weekend in Scottsdale during the 24th Speedway Motors Southwest Nationals presented by Barrett-Jackson, coming away with the two top titles in the Goodguys CPP AutoCross Series. Josh was named CPP AutoCrosser of the Year after a successful season of PRO-X class wins and shootout appearances and victories. Brother Jared, meanwhile, captured the coveted win for the Duel in the Desert Shootout presented by Speedway Motors, Lecarra, and Optima Batteries.

Josh Leisinger has been a steadfast and consistently competitive racer in the Goodguys CPP AutoCross Series for years and finally came away with the top prize: AutoCrosser of the Year. Josh duked it out with his brother Jared all weekend long, and the two Summit Racing Corvette drivers faced off in the final round of the Duel in the Desert Shootout. Jared claimed the shootout victory, though Josh’s accumulated season points earned him the AutoCrosser of the Year honor.

Jared earned the top qualifying spot and defeated Gary Hart, Mike Hogate, 2021 PRO class points champion Ron Scott, Jr., and reigning 3x AutoCrosser of the Year Scott Fraser en route to the final round. Josh was second quickest in qualifying and had to beat 2021 FiTech Challenger class points champion Thomas Adjutant in the opening round, then Dustin Reed, Greg Thurmond, and Tom Kamman before squaring off against his brother in the final round.

A lifelong car kid, Steven grew up around drag strips – his name may sound familiar because his grandfather is Bob Bunker, a Pro Mod pioneer who piloted the “Folsom Flash” ’55 Chevy from the ’70s through the ’90s. Steven’s father, Bob Bunker Jr., heads up Bunker Motorsports and is a regular in the West Coast racing scene, building chassis and race cars for more than 30 years. With genetics like that, it’s no wonder Steven has a passion for both cars and motorsports. In addition to helping his father and honing his fabrication skills at Bunker Motorsports, Steven began shooting photos at the drag strip and capturing the action with his Canon camera. He is now artfully crafting stories around the awesome machines at the shows, as well as the men and women behind them.
