Home Runs – Celebrating the Do-it-Yourself Spirit with the 2025 Speedway Motors Homebuilt Heaven and Traditional Homebuilt Heaven Winners

One of the most common critiques we hear about Goodguys events, and the Gazette, is that high-dollar, pro-built cars and trucks get too much the attention. It’s true that we showcase plenty of big-budget builds from top shops, but Goodguys has never forgotten that hot rodding was born from the do-it-yourself spirit. Since its inception, our hobby has been driven by hands-on enthusiasts who bust their knuckles and burn the midnight oil in their home garages to pursue their personal hot rod and custom car dreams.

Goodguys has long partnered with our friends at Speedway Motors to celebrate hot rodding’s DIY ethos with the Homebuilt Heaven and Traditional Homebuilt Heaven awards. These awards are selected at each event from the Speedway Motors Homebuilt Heaven area, one of the most popular Saturday Special Parking Areas. Car owners who have done much or all of the work on their vehicles can park in the Homebuilt Heaven section and fill out a placard to specify which parts of their build they did themselves, and which things they farmed out. It’s a great way for do-it-yourselfers to show off their hard work to fellow enthusiasts.

At the beginning of this year, all the 2025 Homebuilt Heaven and Traditional Homebuilt event winners were placed in a bracket-style competition on the Goodguys Instagram page, giving enthusiasts a chance to vote in a series of matchups that eventually led to a final round and yearend champions in each category. The galleries below show the regional winners of each event starting with the Traditional Homebuilt group followed by the Homebuilt Heaven winners:

And the Speedway Motors Homebuilt Heaven regional winners:

At the end of the contest, Craig Coulter’s ’59 El Camino emerged as the 2025 Homebuilt Heaven winner and the ’56 F100 of Ron Weeks became the 2025 Traditional Homebuilt Heaven winner. Both rides showcase great style and drivability and prove that eye-catching, award-winning vehicles can still be crafted primarily at home.

Goodguys extends its congratulations to Craig Coulter and Ron Weeks for their winning homebuilt rides! Both winners will receive a prize package from Speedway Motors that includes gift certificates and other cool swag, plus Gazette and Fuel Curve features along with the satisfaction of knowing they’re helping to keep homebuilt hot rodding alive. If you’ve got a garage-built beauty you’re bringing to a Goodguys event this year, be sure to look for the Speedway Motors Homebuilt Heaven parking area and join in the do-it-yourself fun!
