Hell on Wheels Halloween Hill Climb – Retro Riders Twist the Throttle!
The Hell on Wheels Halloween Hill Climb was sensory overload if two wheeled retro riders move your needle. Down in Southern California there is a loose confederation of motorcycle devotees who hold staunchly to the belief that vintage motorcycles are not museum pieces, they are supposed to be ridden, and ridden hard.
Wafting through the air during the melee were the sounds of 2-stroke and 4-stoke bikes of every caliber along with old school 70s and early 80s punk rock, bullshit and banter, and the announcer pitching his witty observations as the contestants rounded the track.
The man behind Hell on Wheels MC, known simply as “Meatball,” keeps a casual and simple agenda for the hill climbers. Have fun…have fun, and have fun. The Hell on Wheels Halloween Hill Climb is open to any type of skill level rider from the seasoned vet to the novice.
The notion is for the average guy, or gal to race around in the dirt and put on a show. Since it was Halloween time, the riders wearing costumes scored big on the fun meter. Though not mandatory, it added a lot of fun and showmanship to the event.
If you’re sitting on a vintage motorcycle and want in on the action, there are several different classes that run the hill climb. They include
-Ladies
-Pull start minis
-Mini bikes up to 100cc
-150cc mini
-Vintage pre 75
-Modern 1980+
-Open Twins and British Singles
-Bomber 75-80s motocross bikes and dual sport
-Roland Sands Super Hooligan.
-Mike Davis Hand Shift Class
Suppose you don’t own a motorcycle, that’s OK too. There were many revelers and Looky-Lou’s that simply attended to watch the riders struggle up the hill. It was the perfect way to spend a hot and dusty Saturday before the bright skies begin to fade into winter.
The best news is you don’t have to wait until next fall to either watch or join the Hell on Wheels MC hi-jinks. They have a full calendar of fun events for vintage motorcycle enthusiasts. You can peep their calendar here on their Facebook page. They also have cool gear and swag for sale on their club website. Give ‘em hell!
