Happy 4th of July!
With the 4th of July just around the corner and the 28th Speedway Motors Heartland Nationals kicking off this weekend, we figured we’d round up a massive gallery of Red, White, and Blue classics, muscle cars, hot rods, and pickups from past Heartland Nationals events to get the momentum rolling early!
Every year Goodguys celebrates Independence Day in the heartland at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines and every year our nation’s colors are proudly on display. We took it a step further this year and added some more fun summertime activities to the event.
To go along with the sheet metal eye candy seen here, we put together a “to-do” list if you’re planning on attending the 28th Heartland Nationals this upcoming weekend. Be sure to stick around for the massive Fireworks display on Saturday night, too!
All weekend over 4,000 show vehicles will fill the Iowa State Fairgrounds, but be sure to also check out the indoor and outdoor vendor displays, our Goodgals Arts & Crafts Gallery, the Swap Meet and Cars 4 Sale Corral, a Model and Pedal car show, RC Car exhibit, and of course the AutoCross racing action – each of these activities happen all three show days!
On Friday you’ll get your first taste of Nitro when the Nitro Thunderfest cars fire off at 1pm, then we’ll cruise the fairgrounds until the sun sets during the Twilight Cruise.
Saturday we’re “all in” with live nostalgia entertainment from bands taking the stage at 11am and 1pm. More music to our ears comes courtesy of supercharged Hemis during the Nitro Thunderfest at noon and 2pm. The Burnout Contest will follow the noon Nitro session with the first tires turning at 12:30pm. And the Kids area will be bursting at the seams as always with PPG’s Coloring Contest, the AMT Model Car Make ‘n Take (Saturday at 1pm, Sunday at 11am), fun clowns making balloon creations, and other activities for the youngin’s.
We’ve also added a Watermelon Eating contest as well as an Apple Pie bakeoff on Saturday. The Apple Pie bakeoff will begin at 11am in the Ewell building. The Watermelon Eating contest will take place at 2pm at the Riley Stage – both kids and adults are welcome to participate in the contest and can sign up all day Friday or Saturday by noon at the DJ Booth.
The Saturday night festivities get started with 3 On The Tree rocking live classics at the main Grandstands at 8pm followed by a third Nitro Thunderfest session at night at 9pm – they’re cool in the daylight, but even better at night with header flames blasting from the pipes! At 9:30 the fireworks show will begin and we’ll conclude the evening with more twilight cruising.
On Sunday we’ll welcome all American made or powered cars and trucks during Spectre Performance All American Sunday, so bring out those late models! Church Service starts at 10am at the Riley stage, All American Sunday AutoCross racing will run from 8am to 1pm, 3 On The Tree will be rockin’ again at 1:20pm on the Riley stage and will take us into the Awards Ceremony kicking off at 2:22pm.
We’re geared up for a great weekend in the Heartland and we can’t wait to see you there!
