Every single image in Larry Pfister’s photo archive is solid gold if you dig 1970s era nitro drag racing. Pfister, a Canadian photographer, had a ringside seat for all of the 1970s-1990s era drag strip debauchery in the Northwest. Tracks like S.I.R., Portland, Puyallup, Mission Raceway, Woodburn Dragstrip and any other place in the Northwest they ran nitro, Pfister was there capturing it all on film.

This particular story was our favorite. In this article, Pfister talks about the most popular 1970s Funny Cars on the circuit. Gordie Bonin, Jerry Ruth, Tommy Ivo, Snake & Mongoose, Ed McCulloch, Jungle Jim and others were brilliantly captured by Pfister’s talented eye.

I mean, there’s not much more to say. This was drag racing’s hey day and we appreciate guys like Larry Pfister for giving us a window to the past. Enjoy!
