Friday First Look! Goodguys 31st Summit Racing Lone Star Nationals presented by BASF

Baskin Robbins may have 31 flavors, but Goodguys has 31 years of Texas sized hot rodding fun as the Summit Racing Lone Star Nationals presented by BASF kicked off today at Texas Motor Speedway!

The stage was set with clear, blue skies with rows and rows of incredible cars and trucks filling the Speedway infield. This weekend there there will be two winners for the Goodguys Top 12 of the Year awards announced including the Goodguys Most Bitchin’ title and the Griot’s Garage Muscle Machine of the Year.

For those in the running for the Muscle Machine title, they were required to roll out for a 90-mile reliability run today, a lap on the autocross and finally a drag strip pass on pit row. The winning muscle machine will be announced on Saturday afternoon during a special presentation while the Most Bitchin’ will be named on Sunday after the awards parade (which starts at 2:22 in the afternoon).

Students in trades classes were treated to a Lone Star Nationals field day as Goodguys and the ASE Education Foundation welcomed students to the Careers in Hot Rodding program presented by WyoTech. After the short program featuring a Q&A with top builders and industry pros the kids got to take in the show, the builders and vendors which includes the Summit Racing Super Shopping Experience as well as a packed swap meet – and there were plenty of hot rod parts, builds, and even project cars to dream about.

Across the grounds you could hear the roar of engines and squealing tires as racers honed their times on the CPP autocross track while the stock car racers of Team Texas Rides made laps on the speedway taking fans out of the track to experience the motorsports thrill. The vintage, nitro-fueled dragsters fired up during the Summit Racing Thunderfest which you could hear throughout the massive swap meet across the track.

There’s two more days packed with hot rodding fun including a Burnout Contest on Saturday and Sunday and don’t forget the Family Fun Zone with drift trikes and games, the AutoWorld model car Make and Take and plenty of car awards to be give out. Customs and Hot Rods of Andice will be on hand to pick their Top 10 Builders Choice and Goodguys will also be naming finalists for Truck of the Year Early and Late, Muscle and two more GM Iron Award finalists!

Pack up the family and head to Texas Motor Speedway for two more days of hot rodding fun with thousands of Cool Cars, Cool People and Texas-sized Good Times!
