2018 Winner – David Martin’s 1931 Ford – Built by Hot Rods & Hobbies

If you have a pre-1948 Hot Rod and have your sights on the 2021 Tanks, Inc. Hot Rod of the Year title, this is the information you’re looking for before heading to Tennessee:

Basic Criteria: It makes noise; it is regularly street-driven, has a mean attitude and screams the words “Hot Rod.” No cream puffs!

How to Enter: Cars interested in competing for this award need to enter the “Hot Rod of the Year” staging area, Friday, May 28th at Nissan Stadium, by 9am sharp. The hot rods will then take an approximately 100-mile round-trip reliability run around Nashville which will include an 1/8-mile dragstrip fun run and a tire smoking burnout (times will not determine the winner, but style points will count). During the reliability run the selection committee will be looking for hi-revving, hard driven hot rods with attitude. Five finalists will be announced and displayed together on Sunday. The overall winner will be announced Sunday, May 30th during the event award ceremony.

Director of Media & Marketing

A lifelong car kid, Steven grew up around drag strips – his name may sound familiar because his grandfather is Bob Bunker, a Pro Mod pioneer who piloted the “Folsom Flash” ’55 Chevy from the ’70s through the ’90s. Steven’s father, Bob Bunker Jr., heads up Bunker Motorsports and is a regular in the West Coast racing scene, building chassis and race cars for more than 30 years. With genetics like that, it’s no wonder Steven has a passion for both cars and motorsports. In addition to helping his father and honing his fabrication skills at Bunker Motorsports, Steven began shooting photos at the drag strip and capturing the action with his Canon camera. He is now artfully crafting stories around the awesome machines at the shows, as well as the men and women behind them. When he's is not on the road covering events, he spends his downtime out on the water fishing, building his 1962 Chevy Nova, or cruising his 1987 GMC Suburban.
