Friday First Look! Goodguys 35th Speedway Motors Heartland Nationals presented by FiTech Fuel Injection
Let’s get ready for a star-spangled, flag-waving, high-revving, hard-charging holiday weekend in the heart of America! Our country is celebrating its 250th birthday, and Goodguys is marking 35 years of the Speedway Motors Heartland Nationals presented by FiTech Fuel Injection! We’re taking over the all-American Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines for three days of Cool Cars, Cool People, and Good Times!

It’s the height of summer here in the heartland and gearheads from all over the region are ready for a holiday weekend full of hot rods, customs, classics, and more. We kicked things off early on Thursday with a fun Poker Run taking us to shops and sights around the city. This included the Heritage Carousel, Pleasant Hill Diner, Carnock Creations, and Karl Kustoms. We finished off the day with a parking lot party at the West Des Moines Marriott host hotel.
A Friday morning thunderstorm washed many of the participating vehicles early Friday morning, but the sun quickly popped out, and folks were wiping off their cars, shining up the paint and chrome, and prepping for a great day of Goodguys fun. There was plenty of cruising along Grand Avenue, hundreds of vendors to shop from, a huge swap meet to check out, hard-cornering action on the AutoCross course, an Indoor Car Show, and thousands of cool cars and trucks spread out around the fairgrounds. In short, it was a fantastic Friday!
We’ve got a jam-packed weekend in store to keep the Good Times cruisin’ for the next two days. Tyler Nelson from Revision Rods & Rides will be choosing our Builder’s Choice Top 10 awards, and there will be dozens of additional awards and picks selected. We’ll also have Fourth of July Fun like a watermelon eating contest, pie baking contest, and pinup girl contest, plus Nitro Thunderfest exhibitions, a massive Burnout Competition, live music, great food, and even a Saturday Night Fireworks Extravaganza. Come on out and join us for the all-American hot rod fun if you can. If not, stay tuned to our social networks and FuelCurve.com for more coverage!
