Friday First Look! Goodguys 33rd Speedway Motors Heartland Nationals

Did someone say holiday weekend? The Fourth of July may be over, but Goodguys is just beginning to celebrate the freedom and independence we all enjoy with our rods and customs as we kick off the 33rd Speedway Motors Heartland Nationals! We lit the wick for this festive early-July tradition and it’s already shaping up to be a spectacular extended holiday weekend here at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines!

There was plenty of buzz in the weeks leading up to this event, as an increasing number of vendors, top-shelf builders, and longtime hot rodders from around the region and across the country began making their plans to head for the heartland. The registration building was jumping all day Thursday, and we had a great turnout of early arrivals to partake in the traditional Poker Run Thursday afternoon. Throw in a kickoff party at the West Des Moines Marriott, and this crowd was amped up and ready to go!

By mid-morning Friday the fairgrounds were already looking like a Saturday, with cars and trucks finding parking spots in every corner of the fairgrounds and rodders cruising Grand Avenue in droves. The scene continued to build throughout the day, as more participants and spectators cruised in to join in the fun. A mix of clouds and sunshine traded turns throughout the afternoon, while a rainbow of incredible cars and trucks provided all the color anyone could want.

With great weather forcast throughout the weekend, we’re expecting a record-breaking attendance here in Des Moines. In other words, this is the place to be for in-the-know rodders and enthusiasts this weekend! You owe it to yourself to come check in out if you’re anywhere near Iowa, as this promises to be an Independence Day weekend hot rod party to remember! Come see for yourself if you can, or keep yourself tuned to Goodguys social media and for updates.
