Friday First Look! Goodguys 28th Speedway Motors Southwest Nationals – The Season Finale!

We had a fun-filled Friday in Scottsdale, Arizona, today as Goodguys kicked off the 28th Speedway Motors Southwest Nationals, the final event of their 2025 season. All the street rods, cool cars, and classic trucks looked spectacular as they cruised into WestWorld of Scottsdale, especially up on the top deck where we parked the Goodguys Top 12 of the Year winners presented by BASF. And thanks to a little cloud cover and comfortable fall cruising temperatures, the bar has been set pretty high for the rest of the weekend!Friday First Look! Friday First Look! Goodguys 28th Speedway Motors Southwest NationalsFor a handful of hot rodders, the fun started on Thursday with our annual Hot Rod Cruise around the greater Phoenix metro area. Kudos to our local Goodguys Rodders Rep, Ernie Oakes, who helped put together a fun tour that included stops at Scottsdale Restorations, Hurricane Motor Sports (and All American Billet), Arizona Custom Car Design, and Martin Auto Museum. We saw a lot of cool hot rod stuff, made new friends, and had fun along the way.

Friday morning kicked off with a clear forecast and a steady line of vintage cars and trucks rolling into the show grounds. Speaking of trucks, there was a big gathering of GM pickups thanks to our friends with the Squarebody Syndicate/GSI groups that set aside time to help out at the show. We also welcomed more than100 local high school students to take in a special ASE Education Foundation Careers in Hot Rodding program, where they got to hear from industry professionals about employment options in the hot rodding field.

Live racing action was taking place on the Goodguys Autocross track as racers prepare for the season finale featuring the Duel in the Desert and King of the Desert Shootouts. There was also the rumble and scent of nitro burning exhibition dragsters at the Summit Racing Nitro Thunderfest, a huge manufacturer midway packed with latest performance parts and products, and what can we say about the swap meet? The Phoenix area get serious about vintage car parts with parts and collectibles spread out across the show grounds and more.

Whew! And that is just the first day of the Southwest Nationals! If you’re in the area, don’t let your pocket whether forecast scare you off from missing what is shaping up to be a huge show to close out the season! Get here if you can and check on the Goodguys social media channels for more highlights!
