World’s Fastest Electric Go-Kart, Insanely Fast Racing Fun

Tromping on the “go pedal” and feeling the car quickly accelerate is part of a car guy’s DNA. That’s why people check out the 0-60 mph times for our motor toys. The new Bugatti Chiron has a 2.3 second elapsed time, as does a Tesla Model 3 with the “Ludicrous Plus” mode enabled. Makes a 2015 Corvette Z07 at 3.0 seconds almost seem tame, doesn’t it? But what about an electric go-kart that claims to best those times at less than 1.5 seconds?

Daymak, a Canadian firm that specializes in electric bicycles and light electric vehicles, has branched out to go-karts and now is developing their C5 Blast EDF. Their base go-kart uses a ten kilowatt DC motor to drive the wheels. They achieve a fairly fast 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds. To reduce drag, the C5 Blast EDF model uses twelve EDF (electric ducted fans) motors with eight on the sides and four on the back to produce both thrust and lift. With a weight of around 220 pounds, this beast would be a blast to operate. This 100 percent electric go-kart uses 2400 watt-hour lithium battery cells to power the drive motor. Twelve additional batteries are needed for the EDF units.

Would it surprise you that they also need a liquid cooling radiator to keep the drive motor happy? The Guinness Book of World Records presently shows the quickest go-kart is at 2.635 for the 0-60 elapsed time. The Daymak Vice President Jason Roy stated, “We went through all this effort to break the record so we figured hey might as well smash it!’ They hope to formally set the record soon. Plus, they are considering designs to drop to under a second for their elapsed 0-60 mph time.

The company hasn’t yet done enough testing to verify the range on these thrill seats, but we think any time on this electric rocket ship would be sufficient. Look at this video for an idea of how it rides.
