Dutchboys Hotrods Refines Restomod on a Stunning 1967 Camaro
GM was tardy to the pony car bonanza that Ford started in 1964, but when the General finally showed up, it was fashionably late with the prettiest pony in the corral. The 1967 F-bodies were perfect from every angle, voluptuous yet rugged, tame enough for secretaries and burly enough for the muscle car crowd.
Little did we know that the Camaro would become a canvas for muscle car and street machine builders to this day. In fact, it’s hard to do something different with first-gen F-bodies in 2026. The best strategy is to make something good even better, and that’s exactly what builders Dutchboys Hotrods did with this ’67 Camaro owned by Andy Vasas, which debuted on the event scene last year and became a Griot’s Garage Muscle Machine of the Year finalist at Goodguys 11th North Carolina Nationals in Raleigh.
The car started out at Detroit Speed Engineering, where it was fitted with a DSE front subframe and front and rear suspension systems. Andy then drove the car for a bit, then handed it off to the team at Dutchboys, which is well versed in crafting muscle machines that look great and work even better.
Fuel Curve talked with Dutchboys General Manager Jason Mitchell about the project. “We got the car and were tasked with taking it to the next level,” Jason says. “We completely massaged the body with tweaked door sheet metal, rear mini-tubs, smoothed body seams, one-piece rear window trim, hood louvers, and a custom grille and exterior lighting. Then we sprayed it out in a fresh coat of BASF Glasurit GM Marina Blue.”
Under the hood resides a supercharged LT4 crate engine with a Billet Specialties Tru Trac front accessory drive. The 600-horsepower 376c.i. V8 runs through a Bowler T56 six-speed transmission out to the Moser rearend. Big Forgeline RB3C wheels, 18s up front and 19s in the rear, are wrapped in sticky Michelin rubber, and the stance hits the bullseye dead on. Baer Pro Plus brakes with six-piston calipers on all four corners drop the anchor pronto.
Dutchboys is a one-stop shop, but its interior work is handled by Avant Garde Design in Florida, which does incredible work. This cabin is completely redesigned, yet it looks like it could have popped out of GM Design back in the ’60s. Modern touches like AutoMeter gauges, a Sparc Industries steering wheel, and a custom console are expertly integrated, and you’ll also find comforts like Vintage Air and Sony tunes.
Andy’s Camaro is so clean and pure, and so nicely turned out by the Dutchboys crew, that it creates a commotion wherever it goes, and is likely to do so for years to come.
