Murray Kustom Rods Delivers a Low Stance with a Smooth Ride for ’49 – ’54 Classic Chevys

If you’re looking to rework the suspension of your classic Chevy, head on yonder to Fort Worth, Texas, and look up Murray Kustom Rods. As the crew at MKR built hot rods and customs, they ending up modifying the suspensions to a point where they ended up developing their own suspension systems in order to achieve the stance, and more importantly, the ride quality that they wanted to deliver.

Today they offer a catalog of proven parts for classic ’49 – ’54 Chevys (and earlier) including a complete Air Ride Front Suspension as well as a rear system. The Murray team spent a lot of time rethinking the Mustang II suspension, and ended up developing all of their own components, except the spindle (for now).

The MKR bolt-in crossmember is constructed of 1- gauge steel and 100% TIG welded, and internally gusseted providing a double shear mounting of the lower control arms. They even worked in unique tow hooks to ease strapping your car down if it’s ever towed. Their custom control arms all use Moog ball joints for proven strength and endurance.

The upper control arms, crafted from .500-inch steel plate and mounts to a bracket assembly that locates off the frames existing holes helping to ease the installation. The kit comes standard with a sway bar, Grade-8 hardware, Monroe shocks, Wilwood calipers, OEM rotors and brake pads, and a power steering rack as standard equipment.

Another optional part is their new transmission crossmember kit that replaces the bulky OEM K-member which hangs way too low. The Murray kit provides you with another 2-inches of clearance for a much better drop – even the mounting holes are countersunk!  The assembly is designed to mount popular GM automatic including the TH-350, 4L60E, and the 700R4.Murray Kustom Rods Classic Chevy Suspension
