An OBS Project Snowballs into a Finalist for the Goodguys Dakota Digital Truck of the Year (Late)
After scoring a pretty clean OBS on Marketplace a few years ago, Brian Wojcik figured he would take it into Scott’s Hotrods ’N Customs for a drop and maybe an engine upgrade. But even at the very beginning of the project, he could sense that his seemingly simple plan was going to evolve into something much bigger.
“The most challenging part was wondering how big of a snowball we would end up with,” Brian says. “Originally, it was going to be an LS swap and some suspension work, then it became a chassis, then a cool-looking bed, and more sheet metal work…and it continued to grow.”
As you can tell, the snowball grew rapidly and grew large, but you can’t argue with the results! The truck debuted at the 2025 Triple Crown of Rodding event and took home the top honors in the late-model truck class, and it recently became a finalist for the Dakota Digital Truck of the Year Late, part of Goodguys Top 12 presented by BASF.
The truck is just so smooth and soothing on the eyes thanks to PPG‘s Toyota Amazon Green with Honda Green Tea hues applied flawlessly by the crew at Scott’s over the straight and smooth body. The inside of the bed is completely scratch built, as is the custom rolled pan, and that metal forming talent was also applied under the hood with custom-formed panels framing a very detailed 525-horsepower LS3.
Underneath it all is a Scott’s Hotrods ’N Customs chassis that incorporates their equal-length parallel four-bar setup with a Watt’s link securing a Moser 9-inch rearend capped with 14-inch Wilwood brakes on each corner. A set of Ridetech adjustable coil-overs helps produce the perfect stance and comfortable ride, complemented with splined sway bars. Brian chose a set of Hot Rods by Boyd wheels, 20×9 front and 20×12 rear, wrapped in Michelin tread.
Crack open the door and you’re welcomed to a tastefu
l interior thanks to the work of Pro Auto Custom Interiors. The bucket seats and console were custom formed then wrapped in tan and brown leathers for comfort. The dash was left “stock-ish” and filled with Dakota Digital instruments, Vintage Air, and a booming stereo finished with Kicker speakers and a 10-inch JL sub.
Brian’s truck has been racking up awards at every show it attends, but he’s just happy how it turned out and really enjoyed the entire build. “The whole process of going through and over every aspect of the build with Justin was a memorable experience,” Brian says. “The credit goes to Justin and the entire crew at Scott’s Hot Rods ’N Customs.”
