Friday First Look! Goodguys 32nd Summit Racing Lone Star Nationals presented by BASF
Goodguys kicked off their 32nd Summit Racing Lone Star Nationals presented by BASF with big, blue Texas skies, sunshine and big time hot rodding fun! It didn’t take long for the Texas Motor Speedway to fill up with the coolest hot rods, trick trucks, muscle cars and classics and there was no shortage of fun with thousand of hot rodder friends!

The Summit Lone Star Nationals has several unique features, two being a pair of Goodguys Top 12 of the Year awards being decided: the BASF Most Bitchin’ of 2025 and the Griot’s Garage Muscle Machine of the Year. For those in the running for the Muscle Machine title, they were required to roll out for a 90-mile reliability run today, followed by a lap on the autocross, and finally a pair of drag strip passes on pit row. The winning muscle machine will be announced on Saturday afternoon during a special presentation while the Most Bitchin’ will be named on Sunday after the awards parade (which starts at 2:22 in the afternoon).
Another unique feature for this event is the Summit Super Shopping Experience with loads of top manufactures filling the north paddock, not to mention rows of other vendors, builders, and even more manufactures. There was also a big swap meet and even more cars and projects for sale in the Cars 4 Sale Corral. Right in the middle of all this action was “Shorty’s Lowrider Showcase” featuring some amazing lowriders.
Local trade school students got to play hookie today to take part as the ASE Education Foundation welcomed students to the Careers in Hot Rodding program presented by WyoTech. After the short program featuring a Q&A with top builders and industry pros the kids got to take in the show to check out the cars, the parts, and talk to builders and other companies – a great experience!
Across the grounds you could hear the roar of engines and squealing tires as racers honed their times on the Goodguys Autocross track while the stock car racers of Team Texas Rides made laps on the speedway taking fans out of the track to experience the motorsports thrill. The vintage, nitro-fueled dragsters fired up during the Summit Racing Thunderfest which you could hear revving across the track.
The icing on the cake was when show participants line up on pit road to take a few laps on on the Texas Speedway! If you missed Friday, you can relive the action in the galleries below, but there’s plenty of time to make it out for two more Texas-sized days of Cool Cars, Cool People and Texas-sized Good Times!
