2025 Speedway Motors Homebuilt Heaven Contest Hits Goodguys Social Media in January

The Speedway Motors Homebuilt Heaven and Traditional Homebuilt Heaven awards are chosen from at all Goodguys events from the Homebuilt Heaven Saturday parking area. Car owners who have done much of their own work on their vehicles can choose to park in that area and get a small placard to fill out indicating which of the tasks they did themselves, and which ones they farmed out to professionals.

At every Goodguys event a Homebuilt Heaven winner and a Traditional Homebuilt Heaven winner are selected and at the end of the season a contest is ran to select overall Homebuilt Heaven and Traditional Homebuilt Heaven winners. Each overall winner will receive a gift certificate and swag pack from Speedway Motors, as well as a feature on their winning vehicle in an upcoming issue of the Goodguys Gazette to delve deeper into their homebuilt rides.

Each category (Homebuilt and Traditional) will have its own 16-spot bracket, the number one position receiving a “bye” in the opening round.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays for the remainder of January the polls will be open to cast your vote. On Friday’s there will be a post of the updated bracket showcasing the following week’s pairings. The voting will continue through Wednesday January 28th, with the winners announced on Friday January 30th.

A lifelong car kid, Steven grew up around drag strips – his name may sound familiar because his grandfather is Bob Bunker, a Pro Mod pioneer who piloted the “Folsom Flash” ’55 Chevy from the ’70s through the ’90s. Steven’s father, Bob Bunker Jr., heads up Bunker Motorsports and is a regular in the West Coast racing scene, building chassis and race cars for more than 30 years. With genetics like that, it’s no wonder Steven has a passion for both cars and motorsports. In addition to helping his father and honing his fabrication skills at Bunker Motorsports, Steven began shooting photos at the drag strip and capturing the action with his Canon camera. He is now artfully crafting stories around the awesome machines at the shows, as well as the men and women behind them. When he's is not on the road covering events, he spends his downtime out on the water fishing, building his 1962 Chevy Nova, or cruising his 1987 GMC Suburban.
