Patina to Perfection, Plans Changed for this 1967 Chevy C10 Built by Nocal Paint and Body Works

Everyone is guilty of changing their mind now and then – even when a plan or vision is nearly complete. For Ryan Vicklund’s 1967 Chevy C10, things changed a couple times.

The truck spent its entire life at the San Diego Naval Base and sported nicely aged original paint and a pretty solid body. Jesse felt it was an ideal candidate to update with a chassis, wheels, and drivetrain for a perfect survivor-style driver.1967 Chevy C10 Norcal Paint1967 Chevy C10 Norcal Paint

Once in his shop, he stripped the body off the long bed chassis and started fitting it to a fresh chassis from Choppin’ Block. The long bed was diced down and the sheet metal was fitted to the new frame. An LS3 engine from Chevrolet Performance was coupled to a 4L60E trans before being mounted in the fresh chassis. A set of Baer brakes and Raceline Scoundrel wheels with Perelli rubber got things rolling.

Jesse’s plan was coming right along when his friend Ryan Vicklund dropped by the shop and decided he needed the 1967 Chevy C10 for himself. Jesse was cool with that idea as he was building it to sell anyhow, so he soldiered on and reached the point where everything was test fit and fine before blowing it all apart again to powder coat the chassis. This is when Ryan decided he’d prefer to have a truck with nice paint that was a little more finished throughout – no more patina (gasp!).

Well, instead of tearing the truck apart at that point, Jesse pivoted and with the help of Eric Sanderson, they started in on sheet metal repairs and fitment, which included new rockers, cab corners, floor sections, under-hood niceties, and other details. Once smooth, tightened, and straight, Jesse sprayed the 1967 Chevy C10 sheet metal with a subtle hue of Pewter Mist Metallic from Glasurit.1967 Chevy C10 Norcal Paint

Ryan also wanted a finished and refined interior, so the truck was turned over to Ron Mangus to work his magic on a set of Slosh Tubz Buddy Bucket Seats and custom door panels. Square-weave carpet was added, an Ididit tilt column was topped off with a factory-style wheel, and the dash was updated with Dakota Digital gauges and a Vintage Air climate control system.

What started as Jesse’s patina’d project turned into Ryan’s finished build, which in turn became a finalist for the Dakota Digital Truck of the Year Late running during the Goodguys West Coast Nationals. Sometimes a change in direction works out for the better!
