WW Speed & Customs Transforms a 1957 Chevy 3100 Pickup into a Modern Task Force

Some custom truck projects begin with an engine, a cab, or maybe a design sketch. Andrew Slattery’s 1957 Chevy 3100 began with a swatch of leather. Andrew was at the 2021 SEMA Show with Willie Davis from WW Speed & Customs, where he caught the bug for building a pickup project. While walking the aisles, Andrew saw a gray Lamborghini with vibrant blue leather upholstery and declared right there that he wanted blue upholstery for his truck. With that inspiration, project ideas began to flow.1957 Chevy 3100 WW Speed & Customs

Andrew always liked 1955-57 Task Force Chevys, so shortly after SEMA, Willie ordered a Roadster Shop SPEC chassis and a new steel Chevy pickup body from Premier Street Rods. This was post-pandemic, when lead times were long. While waiting on the chassis and body, the two discussed custom ideas and rounded up parts like the GM Connect-and-Cruise LT4 engine and six-speed transmission.1957 Chevy 3100 WW Speed & Customs1957 Chevy 3100 WW Speed & Customs

When the new body arrived, the WW Speed & Customs team treated it to custom tricks like flush-mount glass, smoothed drip rails, and one-piece door glass. The bed received more attention, with subtle mods like lowering the steps to align with the rocker panels, reshaping the front panel to match the cab contour, stretching the rear wheel openings, reshaping the bed rails, and integrating custom taillights into the rear stake pockets. You’ll also notice the custom tailgate of the custom 1957 Chevy 3100 incorporating Andrew’s nickname.

Mixing the right shade of gray paint to coordinate with the blue upholstery was tricky – it had to be darker than most common grays, with the earth tones pulled out. They ultimately found the right combination, and then custom mixed a lighter satin gray to use on the grille, the narrowed front bumper, and the custom rear bumper.

More custom paint was mixed to create a blue to match the leather upholstery. That color was not only used inside the cab, but also on the Roadster Shop frame, which was assembled with Baer brakes, Raceline 20×8.5- and 22×10-inch wheels, and Diamondback Classic blueline tires. The same hue was used on the custom engine cover and to stain the custom oak bed floor.

Seams Impossible Interiors was given free reign inside, where Cody Nebeker built custom seats and stitched them in that vibrant blue Apex leather, along with a custom console housing the Lokar shifter and Vintage Air controls. The smoothed dash was treated to a custom leather pad, Dakota Digital gauges, an Ididit tilt column, and a leather-wrapped Sparc Industries wheel.1957 Chevy 3100 WW Speed & Customs

The truck came full circle when it appeared at the 2025 SEMA Show, where it was displayed in the Wizards Products booth and made the Top 40 in SEMA’s Battle of the Builders – a fitting finish for this cool and distinctive 1957 Chevy 3100.
